In the spring of 2003, Steve & Kerry Sutorius and some partners opened the Wildernest at 929 Water street to serve as the Olympic Peninsula’s outdoor experts. Once an out of the way used gear shop, the Wildernest Outdoor Store has blossomed and come into it’s own over the years on Port Townsend’s main street. In January of 2006, Steve and Kerry left their long term careers in the chemical dependency / outdoor education fields and took on full ownership of the Wildernest. Then in April of 2008, Steve and Kerry were offered a location for a second Wildernest store on Bainbridge Island. That store opened its doors in September of 2008 and has enjoyed the same enthusiastic support by residents and visitors alike that the original store does in PT. Although managing the stores takes a lot of time and energy, Steve continues to enjoy hiking, kayaking, skiing, photography, golf and arm wrestling. Kerry also enjoys kayaking, biking, walking on the beach with their chocolate lab, Harold, and being a Big Sister in the BBBS program. Not only can you find popular active wear, foot wear and accessory labels, but you can choose from hard-to-find brands and cutting-edge equipment as well.
